Stephen Cavness

Pastor

Stephen’s life’s ambition is to grow every day in his knowledge and awe of, love for, joy in, and obedience to Jesus Christ and to joyfully, passionately, and faithfully proclaim the supremacy of God in all things through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He hopes the result of his life will be Christ glorified, the church strengthened, and more disciple making disciples.

Stephen has served as the pastor of FBC Fulton since May of 2013.  As pastor, he is called to “the ministry of the word and to prayer.” (Acts 6:4). This ministry includes leading, equipping, and caring for the members of FBC. (Acts 20:28; Ephesians 4:11-16; Titus 1:9; 1 Peter 5:2-3)

Specifically, he serves the people of FBC by being a student of the Bible, leading the church’s weekly worship gatherings, preaching expository sermons (i.e. the point of the text is the point of the sermon), teaching both large and small group Bible studies, leading the weekly prayer meeting, and discipling and counseling members of the FBC family. He also serves as the church’s lead administrator.

Originally from Dyersburg, TN., Stephen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition to pastoral ministry, he has previously served as an instructor of Systematic Theology and has written numerous articles on Christianity, the church, and culture for national publications.

A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Stephen enjoys all kinds of sports and outdoors activities, as well reading. His favorite things are spending time with his family as well as talking and laughing with people long after a meal is over or the coffee has run out. He and his wife/best friend, Christi, live in Fulton with their son, Charlie and daughter, Piper.
